I agree that fat shaming does happen, and entertainment takes advantage of it for money. I thought it was good in hearing a view of a person who has been on the side of being shamed. I agree that diets and programs do not work and most of them are not healthy and that there are things that are not in a person's control. The main thing that stuck out to me was she didn't seem to stress about even though it can be out of the person's control where is the accountability of eating healthy and exercising. It is something everyone should be doing regardless of size or their reason for doing it. Fat shaming needs to stop but eating healthy is universal.

This book is so good. It's important for us ALL to think about the ways that we don't give dignity and basic humanity to people who are fat. It's so good to hear from Ms. Gordon about actual real world examples of discrimination and harm, and the responses from people who know and purportedly care for her.
Of all the important messages in the book, this one is the one I'm taking with me the most : fat people deserve to exist and have their needs met. In public places, private conversations, airplanes, gyms, on the street, at work, at the doctor's office. They are worthy humans, just like every one of us. They don't owe society an explanation, an excuse, or even (gasp) their health (and the part of the book debunking the direct connection between weight and health is GOLD).
I am a naturally thin person who has had to make different kinds of explanations for my weight through time, but rarely or maybe never was accosted with cruelty. I learned from this book how to be a better ally to people of all sizes.
