I could see myself reflected in Aubrey’s writings, and also had my eyes opened to even more atrocities that fat people are subjected to “for their health”. Thank you, Aubrey, for sharing your personal accounts in this emotional and vulnerable book. Everyone needs to read this.

This book shook me, in more ways than one. As someone who has lived most of her life as a “small fat,” and only in the last few years have not been, I could see myself in so many facets of this book. Both as someone who has experienced some of this discrimination, and as someone who lives in fear of “going back” to it.

Toward the end of the book, Gordon says that it’s up to allies to be “courageous, vulnerable, and uncomfortable” if we are going to start changing the system(s) we are in. And I’m ready to do my part.

a fantastic, thoughtful, and engaging read that does a beautiful job of blending anecdotal and research based evidence of anti fat bias, how it’s harmful, and ending with an excellent call to action

Incredibly insightful and difficult to read, as it should be. One of the things we neglect to address in conversations about social justice is fatphobia and ableism. This made me take an honest look at myself and my biases regarding the population that deal with institutional discrimination and little to no representation. Straight-forward, razor sharp, and much much needed. We need to do better, and I need to do better.

Another “i think this should be required reading” book. Such important information. If you have tendencies towards anti-fat bias (aka everyone bc of the society we live in even if you don’t think you do), this book is for you! Hence, required reading standpoint. I love Aubrey Gordon and want to personally harm all the horrible people from her experiences she writes about in this book. Also check out her pod Maintenance Phase. Its the best.

3.5 ⭐️. I adore the author and their work. I was hoping the book would delve deeper into fatphobia than it ultimately did. I would still recommend it.
