A pretty odd book that I don't think I'd even recommend to someone wanting to read through the Threshold books for completionist tendencies. It was fine and didn't overstay its welcome but I did not enjoy it nearly as much as [b:14|15062217|14 (Threshold, #1)|Peter Clines|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1338999953l/15062217._SX50_.jpg|20716929] or [b:The Fold|23164927|The Fold (Threshold, #2)|Peter Clines|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1416182070l/23164927._SY75_.jpg|42710963]. It's also not very connected to those two, either.

In the future the moon is, for reasons, the Earth's giant cemetery. I guess space is an issue on Earth, or something? Anyway, people don't decay there, which means that when a meteor that brings the dead back to life lands on the surface of the moon, it's bad. Enter moon zombies.

Onto [b:Terminus|49122653|Terminus (Threshold, #4)|Peter Clines|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1579030162l/49122653._SX50_.jpg|74573809], which I hear is better.

14 was good. The Fold was great. Dead Moon was a whole slog and a half. Maybe it's because, to me, zombies lost its appeal many moons ago so it being the theme here automatically killed my Threshold appetite. I will still give Terminus a go.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I feel like I would have been able to enjoy this book more as just a fun stand-alone with zombies on the moon if it hadn’t been shoe horned into the Threshold universe, but because it was, I kept comparing it to the other three and the last part of the book (where most of the shoe horning happens) had me shaking my head and wishing it had gone a different direction. I did enjoy the book and I never felt like I didn’t want to continue it or anything, but I do think it could’ve been more.

My least fav Threshold book so far. But as the others have been excellent I’m not giving up hope.

Zombies on the Moon!

First book for 2021 and I enjoyed most of it. It fell off the rails a little towards the end, but other than that - it was suspenseful, well-written and sufficiently creepy. There was some grossness as well.

One flaw I’ve noticed in the previous two books in this series is how similar (and nearly perfect) the main dude characters are. I let it go because I still found them and the story fascinating.

Dead Moon stars Callie who has recently given up on her dream of being a ballerina. She is talented and clever, but doesn’t immediately do everything right. I loved her (and this book) from a moment early on when a dude comes on to her in an awkward and all-too-real way and I let out a loud sigh of exasperation at the same time as the character. Some male authors have a hard time writing female characters. Not Peter Clines.

Overall this book is a lot more typical horror as compared to previous books in this series. It’s not a traditional series in that all three books can standalone and could be read out of order. Recommended for fans of cosmic horror and fast-paced action.
