A wonderfully researched and retold collection of the great myths from ancient Greece and Rome.

What an amazing collection. I loved how the author had her obvious preferences for the ancient poets or writers and chose her sources accordingly. The stories are so interesting and, largely, tragic. I had no idea so many Greek myths involved women killing themselves.

This is an essential for everyone who considers themselves to be an avid fan of Greek and Roman mythology. It may be dated, but the information inside and the way Ms. Hamilton composes is superb. My copy is battered and torn from all its wear, but it's well worth it.

I can't imagine any generation not getting into mythology. It's the most fascinating combination of fairy tales and action movies. You've got wars, romance, murdering, births from some guy's forehead, insane and disturbing amounts of bestiality, occasional incest.

I mean, what's not to love?

This book offers a fantastic introduction to Greek, Roman, and a touch of Norse mythology.

The author's introductions are super boring, so skip past the. But the stories are well told, and in depth. Definitely a fantastic primer for anyone wanting to learn more about these amazing characters.

Hamilton does a great job laying out the myths. If mythology is your thing, this text is probably a good place to start. If it isn't, it may be a little tedious. Either way, the scholarship should be recognized.
