The myths in the book were sometimes confusing and hard to follow, because he would go from one myth and then mention some new hero and say, yeah this myth is in section blah. While I learned much more about myths and even remembered some of the ones mentioned in the book in my class, it wasn't my favorite myth book. Everything was too general, but I guess that's the point. I wanted Hamilton to go a little deeper in to the myths. Even though everything was pretty general, there was still a poopie load of information. I wish I could remember everything I read, but I honestly don't. I only know a few myths better than I did before. This book is more of a reference book that someone would use for their paper on mythology or something.
Always a fantastic read about Greek and Norse mythology!
No matter how many poems and papers I read about greek mythology I always come back to this one. the way she takes her time to absolutely eviscerate every greek and roman poet that has ever live before going into the stories will never not get to me😠just a CERTIFIED CLASSIC!!!
I truly can not stress this enough. FUCK. THE ROMANS

thanks ms. lopez for giving me this book, it was nice to re-read some of the greek stories i read as a kid.
A textbook on the Gods, Goddesses, and heroes of myth, it is a must-have companion for any lover of Ancient Greek and Roman literature.

I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in mythology. I have always found mythology fascinating, and this book was definitely not a let down. The anthropomorphism of Greek gods and goddesses is what compelled me to seek a book of mythology, mostly because I find how their actions sometimes reflects certain aspects of our lives (like Hera's jealousy which causes her too seek revenge; Zeus' promiscuity, etc) comforting. I have no idea why. Perhaps it comforts me because it shows that even the best fall victim to their flaws. This book can be used as a reference guide and may be especially handy if you are in a classical studies course. At the end of the book there is an index that allows quick access to certain myths or figures. I read this book purely for pleasure and was pleasantly delighted. The illustrations were gorgeously done and, when present, added to the beauty of the myths. The myths themselves were told compellingly and were written simply enough to entertain those who do not read often. Finally, the small taste of Norse mythology given at the end was just as absorbing. I may have to pursue a book solely dedicated to the Norse gods!
Side note: My favourite myth is that of Persephone.

This was recommended reading in high school but at that time I just didn’t care.
This book served its purpose of providing me with a crash course on Greek, some Roman and a small snippet of Norse mythologies. I am not yet an expert at all, and I’m sure there are a lot more authoritative works I should be reading, but for now what the heck, I feel a little bit smarter. Lol.
