Will come back to. The pacing wasn't compelling enough for me to listen to at work at the time and had to be returned.

I just want to say that I love true crime and I'm always intrigued by college kids, colleges, and professors (in both reality, fiction, and nonfiction). College campuses and towns are frosted bubbles where you think you know what's going on, but things are never what they seem.

Among the Bros exposes the drug world of fraternities in South Carolina. It focuses on a variety of boys (bros) that dealt with cocaine, Xanax, and marijuana. And alcohol, so much alcohol. This chaotic world of college students, specifically within Greek life, is, apparently, wild. Taking cues from the Wolf of Wall Street these bros thought they were invincible and they lived like it too.

Until one day one thing lead to another - one kid was murdered and everything crumbled around the College of Charleston.

This book takes you on a wild ride within the secret lives of fraternity pledges, hazing practices, and the life of rich kids who live life without consequences. This book shows us that there can be consequences, but just because you're arrested doesn't mean you're going to jail.

I enjoyed the ride but it was disturbing and upsetting that people still deal with and revel in this kind of thing.

A fast listen!

The amount of times I said “gross” while listening to this. The view of college as the best time of your life is not only so embarrassing, but clearly so damaging. Those years should be all about learning and traveling the world.

Contrary to popular belief, your kid going to college does not mean pushing them out of the nest with no parental engagement, interest, or parental oversight. Of course certain privileged groups would rather just ship their kids off, give them money, and teach them the world revolves around them. And that never goes wrong!

A very quick read and more than a little unsettling. Rich, white fraternity boys capitalized on the need for Xanax and cocaine on their College of Charleston campus. Mind numbing that 80 percent of of legislators and 85 percent of Supreme Court justices come from this talent pool. Even more disturbing is the lack of empathy for those who die due to addiction - it is almost like an inconvenience to the party schedule. Although I certainly don’t celebrate anyone’s death the story of Patrick Moffley and his family’s behavior- having another huge drug and alcohol fueled raged on their farm as a “life celebration" when he was gunned down in a drug related robbery did not make me sympathetic to their plight. Apparently as long as the black trigger man was apprehended and punished it did not seem to matter to them or the police that the hit could have been an order from another white “bro”. So many of the defendants in this drug ring are out leading their lives without any implications. Thank you to NetGalley for an advance reader copy. This would make a great Netflix expose. Suburb cover design too - kudos to whoever made that choice!
