4.5⭐️ big plot twist in the middle

Edit: After seeing what Sophie Lark wrote on her newest book, Sparrow and Vine, I’m changing my reviews since it’s something that hurts my community, family, and something I will never condone. I was willing to see her apology and see if she would grow from this experience but after seeing her blocking people and commenting to people that were supporting her decision, I can’t really expect any changes to happen.

So I started this earlier this year but ended up pausing it because I had ARCs to read and I was feeling a bit off when reading this. It just felt a lot different from the other books in the series and I just had a feeling that something was going to be sad. I was not fully prepared for it and I was still not prepared to read it now but at least I finished it and I really did enjoy it, it was a really nice read and I loved coming back to all these great characters.

It's no secret that this book is completely different from the other books in the series and I had that feeling when I was reading Broken Vow and how everyone was literally changing but not in a bad way. Just in a way that they are all going through different chapters in their life and I think that in this book especially we really see that big change. I really enjoyed that part as much as it was scary, it was also very necessary. Especially for Sebastian because he was the last person that we would have thought to become the way he did during this book. He himself acknowledged that he was known to be the gentlest and in his book, we get to see this whole new side of him that was just lurking behind him. Also, I think that after certain events that happen in this book it was almost like he didn't have much of a choice since he was quite literally alone with the exception of Aida but she was starting a whole different life than the one that she had in Brutal Prince. I guess what I'm saying is that I absolutely loved Sebastian's character development in his book because it was something that could've happened but wasn't positive that it would and I was afraid that it would be a cringe transition but the way that he changed was completely justifiable.

As for Yelena, I was a bit curious about how she would be because I wasn't completely sure from the first couple of chapters. I thought that she would be a badass girl that simply did what she wanted but that's not the complete truth. Don't get me wrong she is a complete badass just by that one scene when she saves someone but in the early chapters, we see how her life is not relaxing or perfect. Instead, we see how her father is constantly keeping her under watch and that she quite literally can't do anything without his permission, she can't even move around her house freely. You can just see through the pages how hard and difficult her life is and how sad things change when she thinks she's able to have a happily ever after.

I do have to say that it was a bit hard for me to get into it since the beginning was a bit stagnant and I was just waiting for them to reunite but it happens faster than you think it does, I was just impatient. Also, it does seem a tad bit insta love. I just felt like things were rushing a bit and I was just wondering what was going to happen and THE CONFLICT! OMG, I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! I genuinely was surprised when I saw the conflict that happens in the book and the aftermath was just written so well. Honestly, I don't know how Sophie Lark is able to just engage me so fast and not let me leave, no matter how hard I try.

Overall, this was just such a great book to end the Brutal Birthrights series and a good way to open the Kingmakers because we are able to see who are the people in charge from every mafia group and who their heirs are. I simply can't wait for the new stories that will be coming in this new series and I just know that I love the characters just as well!

I absolutely loved this series. However this book and Rionas book, just wasn’t it for me. Good additions to the series. I loved how they turned out! This book felt a bit rushed, especially towards the end. At some points I was confused. But in the end I enjoyed it
