This was one of the funniest and most imaginative books! I can just see Marley barrelling to greet people - maybe b/c I've had my own version of "the world's worst dog". The author/narrator does a great job of maintaining interest throughout! I only wish we could find a way to lenthen dog years into something more compatible with human years...
The quintessential crazy yet loveable dog book. I found the plot to be slow but it is a testament to the commitment this man made to his dog and pal, Marley, who was loved and loved back. It is an easy and enjoyable read. In the end, I couldn't help but cry as I considered the eventual decline of my own crazy dog.
I absolutely loved this book. Grogan's story-telling is amazing--so vivid I felt as though I was watching it play out in front of me.
Out of all the dog books out there, Marley and Me is by far the best. John Grogan is an amazing storyteller who made me laugh, cry, and love all in 287 pages. The description made me feel like I was experiencing everything John and Jenny were experiencing, and I couldn't stop thinking about my own dog. Marley and Me made me feel closer to my dog and my life because Grogan didn't hold back in his story. He wrote about heartbreaking moments and how he felt, which made it way more than just a story about a dog. As I writer, I hope to write something this well-written some day.
Two things:
1) My sister's claim that she does not, in fact, have the world's worst dog is totally justified after reading this book.
2) Of course I knew how it was going to end. Of course I read it anyway. Of course the final chapters were all blurry because I was crying.
There's no way I could handle this in movie form.

I have always loved dogs and if you love them also this book will pull at your heart. The way John Grogan wrote this book you really feel a connection towards Marley and you truly do fall in love with him.
The book itself is good but there’s no other word to describe John Grogan than obnoxious.
Made me laugh and made me cry, but the undertones of just terrible dog parenting and racist jabs (did anyone else cringe the ENTIRE time the author detailed the hospital scene when they missed out of having the high-end birthing suite and we're forced to have their baby delivered in the presence of immigrants?? Sheesh! That chapter made me want to chuck this book off a cliff) made it hard for me to get through. I was entertained, but I couldn't help but agree with the first dog trainer: there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. I mean, it took until his wife threatened to get rid of Marley for the guy to take obedience training seriously, and when he did, they finally made progress (BIG SURPRISE). Also, they got a lab but somehow didn't consider how much exercise it would need? I found them to be negligent, albeit loving, pet owners.
