This is a well-written novel, with interesting and lively characterisation, especially of the young boy whose perspective we adopt first. I liked the characterisation of Hari Cove itself a lot, and the description of the tensions within the community about its directions in modern Japan.

This theme is however mostly dropped for a tragic plot based on a slaying many years ago. I found this somewhat tragic plot really irritating, and this seems to be the kind of thing that raises many unanswered questions. Is there no such thing as a juvenile justice system in Japan? The interesting ecological discussion becomes a somewhat tired resolution of a family secret many years in the making.

I have to admit, this was probably my least favorite of the Detective Galileo series. The parts didn't quite come together the way that they did in the other books, and it felt a little more of a stretch to swallow the final reveal. It's not that it was impossible, it's just that it felt a bit more far-fetched.

Overall, still fun and I love me some Higashino.

It's not often you come across a mystery that doesn't have two-dimensional characters and has a beautiful ending that's wrapped up in the most satisfying manner. This made for a pretty engaging read, although I did think the first half dragged a lot.

Unfolding of yet another (a little too perfect) crime ...but perfect for an Indian movie.

A different approach compared to the previous two books in the series which I found refreshing. Still included all the hallmarks that I enjoyed so much from the previous books though.

Another strike from Keigo Sensei!

Novel thriller dengan misteri pembunuhan berbalut slice of life khas tulisan Keigo Sensei. Selalu suka karya beliau.

My primary frustration with the Detective Galileo novels is that I would prefer to read them all, in order, and that is currently impossible because some of them haven't been translated into English and I can't read Japanese.
