3.5

I quite enjoyed the first two books in thus series; it sits in the small section of the Venn diagram where SciFi meets urban fantasy. However this book was a small bit of a letdown.

The pace was a little strange slow with not a lot of action for the first three quarters of the book then a sudden rush at the end. It felt like rather than trying to tell a story thus book was mostly about resetting the world and introducing a new group/faction.
In the first two books we have normal humans, witches and demons, this book introduces a new group of magic users the Elders (basically the fae).

Also the relationship between Maggie and Damon was completely left hanging and not in a good cliffhangery way but more like in the rush to finish, letting the reader know how or if the latest intervention by demonic forces hard driven a new wedge between them or not got lost. Maybe we were meant to worry if Damon is really OK and isn't running scared again
like the end of book 1
, but it didn't feel that way.

Overall not a bad read but not as enjoyable as the previous two entries in the series. Like expecting the fancy 54% milk chocolate and getting a bar of Cadburys.
