Itō's writing style is stark yet powerful, characteristic of an incredibly talented journalist. Her story is extremely important, and I'm glad translation has made it possible to hear in her own words.

I’m not even sure I can give this a rating because it’s someone’s story but it’s so incredibly well written, the story itself is heartbreaking and I wish more would be done to improve the state of reporting rape across the world.

I will be recommending everyone I know to read this, it may not be easy but it’s completely necessary.

Ito includes email correspondence to support her version of events.
Is that enough?

Credited with galvanizing the #metoo movement in Japan, this is Shiori Ito's declaration of her assault.
