Has really not stood the test of time.  I was prepared for the 80’s pop culture, less so for the chauvinism from the MMC.  Love some of the author’s other books, but this one didn’t need to make the jump to digital.

This book was for the Author of the month challenge, started late last night so picked the shortest of the 3 Catherine Coulter books. It wasn't bad, a pleasant waste of time. Will read the other 2, both were released more recently.

I first read this book in highschool after finding it for $1 at a thrift store, and every few years I come back and re-read it. It's awful...yet amazing at the same time.

This book meets every criteria defined for 80s Romance Novel. The inheritance with strings attached. The cocky man. The coy/wallflower-type girl. They hate each other at first, then become friends, and imagine that fall in love. There are a couple of twists though to keep you on the edge of your seat a little. If you need something trashy to read on the beach, this is it.

Enjoy.

Early book....

I absolutely love Catherine Coulter. Definitely note that this is one of her early books. It's a little disconcerting to read a romance book now with such a male chauvinist perspective and a weak female. Her work and dialogue has evolved so much since this book was originally published. Personally- I recommend skipping this one.

I checked this out of the library, because I love sports romances and viscount part sounded like a bonus. The innocent naive trope is not one of my favorites, but I liked Daphne despite that. Brant was a true alpha, but it was funny, because he was so much more tame than the ones you read in more contemporary romances (this was written in the 80s). The book is on the shorter side, which probably contributed to how rushed parts of the story felt.

Overall: A cute read, not bad, not great, but definitely had some "moments" that I greatly enjoyed.
