Antagonist was too much of a cartoony villain and the romance didn't gag me, but I thought the relationships between the bandmates and even the best friend were cute.
“And I wonder to myself if maybe the lyrics apply to me too- I don’t know if Ma sent these boys to me, but I’m certain she’d love them. It’s impossible not to.”

This book reminds me of Disney channel original movies (DCOM) in the most lovingly way possible. The plot, the characters, their age, I felt like I was a kid again watching a ridiculous and corny movie about high school that I became quickly obsessed with. I loved the found family, the supporting cast, the slow burn romance of the two main characters and just Liana herself. Tashie Bhuiyan writes her brown main female characters so beautifully and realistically that each time I connect to them and love reading their experiences. Then to see them being loved by their partners AND friends is so encouraging for any girl to read but especially black and brown girls in my opinion. If you want a chill and lowkey romantic drama book that has the stakes of a DCOM then please give this book a chance. I know I’ll be revisiting it for sure!

"I wish for happiness, I decide, in whatever form it might be"
this is great if you love One Direction fanfictions or just really sweet found family stories. Heavy with the pop culture references which I'm normally not a fan of but it just comes with the type of story this is, plus Sleeping at Last was mentioned. I did feel like the plot was super predictable and the "villain" felt very Disney to me, but it was still a fun and sweet story overall. Also, the discussions of grief, depression, and anxiety throughout were really well done

This book was so much fun. It was full of love and heartache. It made me laugh and tear up. I loved all the characters so much: Liana, Evie, Skyler, Vincent, Ethan, and Mohammed. They gave the story so much heart. I loved how loving and soft and caring the boys’ relationship was. I loved their interdynamjc and how they brought Liana into it. They welcomed her like family, when she desperately needed it. The birthday they threw for her was so sweet I teared up.
I loved Liana and Sky’s late night drives. I loved all the playlists, the talk of music. I love that Liana encouraged Ethan to write and to tell Sky about him and Vincent. I love that Sky wrote songs about Liana and surprised her at the performance and then with the album. I’m so glad Liana was able to get therapy access at college, and she’s able to help herself.
I love how Tashie arranged the story to have a song as the chapter title, and that she made a playlist to accompany it!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU to authors my age for engaging in a devout love for playlists to accompany your books it makes my heart soar and elevates the reading experience.

First off, I love the cover. The characters expressions and body language really portray their feelings for each other through out the book. Second, what a great book! Not only are the main characters realistic and relatable, the secondary characters are fun and likable. What a found family story. I will be putting this title on my library shelves and taking it up with my students. Music is central to my students' well being and this book illustrates the connection between friends and music. The story spoke to my heart and I hope my students enjoy it as well.
