From the very first page it is crystal clear that Johannes V Jensen was a poet. Trough the entire book you read about poetically and beautifully described landscapes and people. The long passages where he reflects on the season changing in Denmark and the characters are definitely what makes this book just a bit good. For me it could have been enough with that and no plot. Cause what is this book about?
Yes it’s supposed to be a sophisticated and intelligent storyline where many things truly means something else. I usually don’t have a problem with reading things where I’m supposed to think more into it and sometimes stop and reflect over what I just read. But this was just too much for me.
Reading books where I feel like I have to analyze it every two minute is not my favorite. I didn’t feel like picking it up and start reading it cause I knew I would be tired out really quick. Maybe it would have been better if I understood some of the many references wich probably passed over my head.
Some of the characters took some decisions and did things wich where pretty unrealistic. Otherwise the characters where not the problem with the book. They where well described and you got a great idea who these people where. Anyways not really a recommended read but if you feel like diving into classics I guess this is a most read and not one of the worst once.
