I like how the story started from their freshman year up until they went to college. Others might find it too dragging but it was really nice to actually see the MCs grow and mature right before the readers and see their relationship develop from being class partners to more. There's too much drama happening between the two rooting from the poor decisions of doing the opposite of what they say or feel. Ego, denial and misplaced self-restraint were fine ingredients to a recipe of heartbreak. Despite all that, it was still a decent read.

This book started slow for me, then picked up, then disappointed me a bit in the end.
I liked Nolan quite a bit, I'm a sucker for characters who don't realize how awesome they are. I liked Red too, but he disappointed me again and again.
Up until the accident, I was sympathetic to all of Nolan and Reeds issues regarding their relationship and the situations that affected it, but in the end, I was disappointed in Nolan for forgiving Reed so easily.

I don’t know how to rate this one because the book kept me pulled in, but this relationship was so unhealthy. I wanted to root for this couple but there was a very clear pattern of him being a douche and her eventually forgiving him because she loved him and eventually he’d fall back into his old patterns. If any high school girl I knew was in a relationship like this, id tell her to sprint in the other direction. I was so angry by the end, but also I kept picking up the book in little pieces of time I found because I needed to know what happened.. so 3⭐️? 2.5?

3.5 stars — I previously reviewed this book here. This is mainly a review of the audiobook narrator, as my opinion of the book really didn’t change much. The book still started off super strong, yet by the end I was left feeling frustrated and angry with both Reed and Nolan. It was just one too many instances of Reed behaving badly, which suggests to me he will always deal with stress and uncertainty in a harmful way; and one too many instances of Nolan bending over backwards for him and taking him back with barely a whisper of an apology, not helping him to learn and grow in the future. Now, they are teenagers. But still. This is the one book that I can now say I consistently end it wishing that the two hadn’t ended up together. At least not yet. Not without more growth. Perhaps I will get that in the next book.
Anyways, as for our narrator, I thought she was decent. Her pacing was fantastic, I thought she did a good job of the different voices of characters, and her voice fit as Nolan for me. I will admit that the way she narrated Nolan made me more acutely aware of just how much Nolan’s love of Reed felt more like infatuation…but again, she is a teenager. And I definitely felt some of the emotional moments from her. I did notice the occasional pronunciation that twigged me (though apparently one of them can be pronounced both ways), and while I enjoyed her, she didn’t make my top narrator list. But I would be fine listening to her again in the future (which is good since she narrates the next book in this series).

This is the first book in this series and this author captured me right from the beginning. I devoured this story
DNF @ 25%. The teenage angst. Ugh. :(
This book has so many good reviews and high ratings so maybe i'll continue reading it in the future, but as of right now, I can't deal with the drama, jealousy, and secret glances. Totally not up my alley.
