Ohh I love a good fake dating trope, and this book delivered it in spades. The first in a series, this book introduced us to a large family that is full of interesting characters. I honestly canā€™t wait to see them find their HEA. Brooke and Moss each had some heavy trauma going in, and had to work through it to be what each other needed. This had all the laughs and the spice that I have come to expect from Adriana, culminating in a great book.

šŸ’‹ fake dating
šŸ’‹ forced proximity

šŸ’‹ small town

Brooke hasnā€™t dated anyone since she left her ex husband. The problem is, her grandmotherā€™s birthday is coming up and her ex is going to be thereā€¦ on the arm of her aunt who is dating him now. After a social media snafu, she ended up telling her mother that she has a boyfriend. Now she just has to find someone willing to pretend long enough to survive that party.

This is the first book in the Carmichael Family series. Fun tropes here: fake dating & friends-to-lovers. Brookeā€™s family, especially her mother, is horrible to her. In order to survive a birthday party for the only family member she gets along with - she devises a plan to get a fake boyfriend. Mossā€™s family maneuvers it so that he ends up filling the role.

I love that Moss & Brooke were good friends and long time coworkers before they decided to ā€œfake dateā€. They are so cute together as friends that itā€™s easy to see the transition into more. I also love Mossā€™s family - his parents & brothers are a loving and fun bunch. Itā€™s awesome to see Brooke supported by them all.

I liked that this was relatively low angst and a lot of fun. Iā€™m looking forward to continuing the series.

Narration:
CJ Bloom and Lance Greenfield are great here. I enjoyed both of their performances.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Home Cooked Books and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

for me

This book was pretty good. It wasnā€™t what I was expecting. It seem like a good idea but I feel like the execution of it wasnā€™t great. It was good but not great. I liked the couple somewhat but there were points in the book that made no sense. Some chapters did not flow at all to the next one. For me itā€™s a 3/5.
