A well written thriller that does a nice bit of historical fiction work too. Only thing is, I figured much of it out half way through. But, still a good read.
This was a bit of a disappointment. I really like Thora, and I do have the next book, but this one just let her down.
The plot was predictable and slow. Sooooo slow. Nothing was come to quickly, everything had to be puzzled out in a long drawn out way. One major twist I figured out within the first 100pp and then Thora worked it out in the last 100pp, and it was the most obvious conclusion all along. Just painful, and cheapened Thora.
Also, I know Thora doesn't like larger people, but the banging on about how she can't believe anyone finds Bella attractive is just annoying. I mean, Bella's personality may be a valid criticism (although I felt her character grew slightly this book), but the fact that she was larger making it impossible for Thora to believe anyone wanted to have sex with her was just off. But Bella was the only one really doing the banging.
Yeah... just not as enjoyable, and noticeably weaker than the other two.

There's a lot of moping around, considering how fat Thora's assistant is, and placing phone calls.

My favorite book in this series so far. The physical descriptions of Iceland and volcanic activity are lovely and the influence of small town politics and secrecy on the mystery were intriguing. As with the other books, the conclusion of the mystery itself was somewhat disappointing, but at least the German boyfriend’s role was minimized this time.

Really a great example of the mystery genre. The subject matter is very dark, but there is comic relief. Thora, a lawyer, has a client whose childhood home has been excavated, and there are 3 corpses and a severed head in the basement...
