The Apprentice feels totally unneeded after The Surgeon. It offers nothing which composes a good thriller. It was mostly medical terms along with boring monologues and descriptions. I think I prefer reading about Maura rather than Jane, but she wasn’t much present in this one.

Oh this series has me hooked. It really captures you and drags you along for a high speed, thrilling ride. The ending was disappointing, yet utterly satisfying. How can that be? Can't wait to start the next book.

I was so conflicted on how many stars to give this, I think reading it to force myself out a book rut didn’t help things, because I haven’t enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed the first one.

I found myself getting fed up with Rizzolli and the “I’m a woman, so what attitude” I found myself glad when she finally let her guard down and let someone take care of her.

I wanted more of an encounter with The Surgeon, he’s smart enough to escape prison and kill without being found, her encounter with him fell short, and seemed a bit abrupt. He has tormented her for 2 books now, he deserved a bit more from this book.

That being said I do enjoy this book series, and plan on reading the next one when it arrives.

love this book couldn't put it down. it was a thriller

challenging dark mysterious medium-paced

The second book in the Rizzoli and Isles series was on its way to become a 5 star book. Its a classic Tess Gerritsen until 75% of the book. The build up was fantastic and I was ready to be surprised by a plot twist. But instead the end was very mediocre and it felt very rushed

3.5 stars
I really liked this sequel to the first Rizzoli & Isles novel. Whilst in the first book the focus was on Detective Moore and not on Rizzoli it has now shifted. Dr. Isles is also introduced but doesn't play an important part.

The story itself is solid; everything fits together rights, there are no loose ends. The characters are also well written. Gerritsen is very good in writing a character who you are not sure about if he's a good guy or a bad guy.

However well written the story and the characters are nothing really stands out. Within a couple of months I will probably find it difficult to remember the story without looking at a synopsis.
