This book does so much in 200 pages, and it almost shouldn’t work, but it does. In almost a vignette style, it explores mother-daughter relationships across time and borders. It is full of sorrow, resilience, power, loss, and love.

this was quite good! reminded me of a mash up of a multi-generational multi-country saga like pachinko or america is not the heat mixed with undocumented americans. it was not quite as good as either, but still really rich characters, histories and some heat wrenching moments.
