I gave the first book 4 stars because it held my attention but my review was pretty critical. Having bought the entire series ahead of time, I decided to give the second one a chance. I liked it less. At first it was confusing. I couldn't figure out why Maggie was important enough to save the world yet she makes the stupidest decisions of any character I've read in my adult life. She lost my respect in the first chapter, for that, and because who starts out a story by swearing?
Yet there has to be a reason why this series is getting so many high reviews.... It wasn't until I was halfway through the book that I finally caught on. Aha! This is not supposed to be urban fantasy like Briggs, Mayer, and Bishop. I'm not supposed to take this book seriously. From there on I pictured the characters as cartoons and enjoyed the story for what it was.
With that being said, I am no longer in a hurry to read the rest of the series, though I'm sure I will, eventually. I enjoy the occasional cartoon but prefer a story with a lot more substance.

Fun story, but the wittiness and sarcasm often obscure the serious portions of the book, making it lose out.

Maggie has to save the world once again with the help of her recently returned father and her elf friend Killian.

A light, action packed urban fantasy with an irreverent, thoroughly enjoyable sense of humor! I look forward to the next book in the series, [b:Maggie on the Bounty|18141634|Maggie on the Bounty (Maggie MacKay, Magical Tracker, #3)|Kate Danley|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1372657507l/18141634._SY75_.jpg|25487760].
