I underlined so many sentences to come back to, because the writing is really special and dizzying. I think that because it’s her last book and so abstract, it might have been better to start with another piece as a first-time reader. Compelling nonetheless.

This is the first time I read something from Clarice Lispector and I find myself in complete fascination. It was like reading pure poetry, real words, something beautiful to see. To thrill. It's no wonder that Clarice is one of the best that this world has ever had, her talent is palpable and this book proved it as her last demonstration of beautiful touching writing.

To live is to die.

The best way to describe this book is dry. Not a bad dryness by any means, but almost a slap in the face kinda dryness. With a lot of the content being shocking ( as it is dealing with extreme poverty and the institution built around that ), though also some parts are kinda funny.

Good read, and really interesting insight into what the author was experiencing when writing the book. As most books written by authors nearing the end of their life is generally reflective, this is almost the opposite. It shows that Lispector was yearning for life and the future.
