Той випадок, коли я почала читати 5 книжок водночас, а першою дочитала ту, про яку почула лише вчора.
Це якийсь бразильський ураган, яким мене знесло, вибило землю з-під ніг і залишило висіти на дереві, геть спантеличену.
По-перше, бразильська письменниця єврейсько-українського походження. По-друге, це її останній роман, виданий буквально за два місяці до її смерті. І про що ж вона написала? Про смерть.
Я читала-читала, і нічого не розуміла. Це суцільний хаос, про який, на щастя, попереджають в передмові. Але сам об'єм - близько 80 сторінок - не давав здатися. (До того ж, книга куплена за 1 гривню на розпродажі, то давно було пора за неї взятися). І що цікаво, у моменти цього хаосу постійно натрапляєш на речення, які змушують спинитись і подумати. Подихати. І читати далі. Я дочитала, і зрозуміла, що книга була того варта.
Вона однозначно не для всіх, але якщо не боїтеся карколомного потоку свідомості - пробуйте.

Той, хто діймає себе питаннями, втрачає цільність.Що ж до дівчини, то вона живе в безликому чистилищі, не наближаючись ні до пекла, ні до раю. Вона просто живе, вдихаючи і видихаючи, вдихаючи і видихаючи. А що ще потрібно, правду кажучи?Ця історія бентежить мене, і я прекрасно розумію, що кожен прожитий день — це день, украдений у смерті. Я не інтелектуал, я пишу тілом. І те, що я пишу, — немов вологий туман. Слова — це звуки тіней, що перетинаються, це сталактити, це мереживо, це органна музика.

the number of people who recommended you start with this novella to begin your lispector journey… let’s reevaluate that.
i’ll admit this likely went over my head, but i did enjoy the beginning and many lines; however, it eventually lost me with its nonsensical stream of consciousness. although that is *the* point and where i can appreciate lispector’s writing style, the narrator tries to achieve simplicity and continues to move in circles without giving anything. the discussions about the human condition were my favorite by far—what does existence mean? the young woman we learn about is a “nobody,” and is that a fact or a belief? or does believing make it true?
it was all very philosophical, which i tend not to enjoy, yet maybe one day i’ll revisit after exploring other works.
noting some lines i highlighted since i borrowed the epub from the library:
- “we exclusively live in the present because it is always eternally today and tomorrow will be today, eternity is the state of things at this very moment.”
- “because ‘who am i?’ creates a need. and how can you satisfy that need? those who wonder are incomplete.”
- “but i also think she was crying because, through the music, she might have guessed there were other ways of feeling, there were more delicate existences and even a certain luxury of soul.”
