I found the narrator’s creative struggles to be the most interesting pov of this book. Having a story to tell that isn’t necessarily positive or the most fun to tell but every ounce of your being has to commit to it anyway and see where it takes you.
I highlighted so many beautiful lines.

"Who hasn‘t ever wondered: am I a monster or is this what it means to be a person?"

"Before that, I want to declare that this girl doesn‘t know herself except from living aimlessly. If she was dumb enough to ask herself 'who am I?' she would fall flat on her face. Because 'who am I?' creates a need. And how can you satisfy that need? Those who wonder are incomplete."

"And I want to accept my freedom without thinking what so many do, that existing is something for fools, a case of madness. Because that‘s what it seems like. Existing isn‘t logical."

Okay book, it’s really heady at the beginning but stop at some point and tells a good story

Were I to describe Hour of the Star to you in rational terms of plot, setting, storyline, & narrative it would seem a well thought out undergraduate piece of fiction. Yet the draw of the story certainly indicates more to it than a downbeat narrator obsessing on the Catholically exhausted life of a young typist. Given the length of the story, one can afford a second read, and with that I found that both the narrator and subject welcomed the vacuum which was the nothingness of her life - and that there is something to the structure of the writing that creates a cocoon of that nothingness - which is a truly remarkable feat.
