This series reminds me of a low to mid-budget sci-fi series from the early 2000s. Book 1 felt like season 1, where you get to know everyone and the protagonists are mostly winning. This book certainly had that season 2 shift, where the gloss is starting to rub away from the characters and you realize they are in deep.

There are certainly some bumps with some of the inconsistencies between statements in some of the books as well as general urban fantasy sleaziness. Unfortunately, there were "sexy" parts with the villains that were used to underscore their evil. This certainly increased the discomfort compared to book 1 as it did include sex used as a tool to gain power and non-consent. As well, the werewolf scenes had more of that classic possessive nature that can get tiresome.

I would recommend this book to anyone familiar with the problematic way urban/paranormal fantasy can go. Also might be of interest to anyone who read the first book and would like to continue with the characters as it certainly answers some of the questions from book 1 and builds on the overarching narrative.

Second in Radclyffe's urban fantasy series. Starts right up after Midnight Hunt and the pace doesn't give the reader much time to catch their breathe - lots of action, lots of characters and lots of preternatural sex. As much as I like reading Rad's stuff, I know damn well that she moves things so damned fast that it doesn't give the reader a chance to question some things that either don't make sense or are just beyond the realm of believable. If I remember the timeline, it's been about a week and Drake's gone from a human doctor to a werewolf, to the alpha's mate and then into full blown heat. But if Drake doesn't seem to mind, I'll let it go because it was a good fun read.

Rad's done a good job of setting up the world but the focus is on the Werewolves and Vamps with only a glimpse of a Fae and mention of Psi and Mages. Of course, there is already a large cast of characters, so bringing in more characters may make the series hard to follow. That's one of the things that irks me in her series - the cast of characters tends to get too big and everyone has to make an appearance (or three) in every book. She resovles most of the plot points in the book, leaving a few open for the next book and definitely ending it with a foreshadowing of what dastardly things are going to happen next.

Just hope that this series isn't going to go the way of Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake or Merry Gentry series where the plot gets lost admist all the sex.

So crazy but also so fun. I continue to love Drake and Sylvan together. Becca and Jodie are two of my favorite characters so I loved their romance and actually wanted more of it. The villain introduced in this book is satisfyingly terrible. But I would have liked this book a lot better if there hadn’t been extensive scenes of torture and sexual assault. Serious trigger warning for those things. Still really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to the next one, even though I don’t like Nikki.
