As bad as the comic is good. The writing is like that of an overeager college freshman with a thesaurus.

If I could give this book less than one star i would. Terrible writing, the plot was as bland as cold oatmeal and I was starting to want to kill people off myself to just get it over with.

It's a little challenging for me to read through a book in the present tense when it isn't also in first person, so just the style of the writing was a bit of a struggle for me to get past. But once I did it was a great read! Some of this lined up with the Governor's backstory from his history episodes, and other bits were completely new, with a fun twist at the end! I love that Robert Kirkman was involved in this because it gives it a great sense of authenticity and I always enjoy learning more about a character I love so much in the show. To any fan looking for more character motivation and backstory, this is a great read!

Very interesting back story on the Governor. I totally thought something different was going to happen, so it was nice to be surprised. And, if I ever wanted to know what the world of The Walking Dead smells like (I didn't), now I do: "A coppery gumbo of human waste slow-cooked in bacon fat."

Solid story with great pacing. This certainly changes your perspective of the Governor in both the comics and the TV series. Easy Read. +Good Characters +Cool Moments -Lackluster Ending

As a lover of horror and zombies I’m pretty used to gore and disturbing content, however, I couldn’t finish this book. It describes in-detail rape in first person more than once. I love the Walking Dead series and assumed this would be similar to the series, even if it was about one of the antagonists in the series. It was a disappointing read.

What a twist towards the end, and I never thought I'd feel compassion/sorrow towards the Governor.
