I just started the series the night before last and my major gripe with the second volume is that it devotes so little time to the hook at the end of the first. It teases the idea a bit, dances around it right at the beginning, and then abandons the mystery for a good 40 pages before reintroducing it just in time for the volume two cliffhanger.
