I liked the basic premise here - a couple goes to live in a sort of commune in order to have a child and live off the land - but I wished that Goldstein had spent a little more time fully building the world these two are running from, as it felt a little too vague.

A couple flees the safe but controlling cities to live in a commune in the wild, with the goal of having a child. Living in a state of freedom is not all as promised in a world where contact with the sun can kill. An itty bitty graphic novel drawn in reds and oranges about building up hopes and falling down dreams.

Interesting set up but feels unfinished, too many questions at the end.

I enjoyed the art and the use of shades of orange. I liked the exploration of this couple's relationship and how they adapt to a harsher life in outpost. The ending was left me wanting more, and I would love to see a continuation of this story.

Caught my eye on display at the library. I read it standing there. A short graphic novel that brought to mind Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and other stories of a dystopic future based on environmental catastrophe and dwindling resources. It is rated for adult content (there's a very tame scene featuring cunnilingus) but reads very much like a story for younger people. It would probably spark good discussion for teens and pre-teens.

This would have been much better if it had been longer. I have no idea why Goldstein decided to truncate what is obviously a much more fully imagined and interesting world.
