I wanted to love this book, especially since I really enjoyed Moreno-Garcia's other book Mexican Gothic, sadly I was left extremely disappointed. I did not care for the storyline or the characters and found myself zoning out at certain parts. I was highly considering DNFing this book, but because it was the only book I had on my commute I forced myself to read it, and after that, I was already halfway done and could not justify DNFing it. I also had about 150 pages left so I just pushed through it. I will still give this author another shot thought because I still throughly enjoyed her other work.

Beautifully executed noir. The POV characters are well thought out and multidimensional, the plot is gripping, and the narrative doubles Back elegantly on itself, rhyming with each pass.

This was an interesting read, I love that it's based on true Mexican history. Now having said that I do have one more thing to say... I absolutely without a doubt hate Maite. Her character is so judgemental of others but she loves to play the victim!!
