I listened to the audiobook of this which perhaps affected my enjoyment of it. Overall, this series is a perfectly fine way to spend a few hours. It's not great but not terrible. It's perfectly adequate. A bit too similar to Harry Potter but perhaps that's intentional.

To me, it's as bad as the first one.

2.5*

In this book, a small boy Henry is forced to leave his life in 1916 and finds himself in modern day London. His old, cruel cousin is now 100 year old Ezekial Bloor, tormentor at Bloor's Academy. It was entertaining and a quick read for me. I can see why boys would like this series. It's not always particularly well-written but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

3 stars for my kid, who for some reason seems to want to read the next one. For me, it was full of all kinds of plot holes and unexplained events popping up. I get done reading these and feel like I missed something.

And the story grows more complex and amazing. More of the characters are explored and history is delved into.
