A very fun and fast paced read. I love morally grey main characters! Thoroughly enjoyed the politics and scheming. Can’t wait for the next book!

This was exciting in many ways and in different layers.
The story is full of grey characters that we rarely ever see.
The story itself is spined in deception, lies, royalty, witches, and beasts.

As I prefer diving into a book without reading the plot, I tend to rarely if never mention the plot in my review to keep it minimum of spoilers and let others enjoy the book from zero.
And this book's plot is ten out of five if not more.
The writing flow is effortless and smooth.

Spoiler Alert:

so, the trope here is enemy to lovers, a trope that on one hand, I love so much but on the other hand, would normally keep me reading till they actually fall for each other, but after that, sadly, in a lot of books, the story becomes dull for me and you can expect what is next.
This one is delivered in different emotions the love-hate relationship continues, and things just keep going that made me go crazy, loving and hating it at the same time, maybe it is an atoxic one but difinetly a new way to go on with a book like this. it shows that not every love could keep up with reality. sometimes things should be dealt with based on how they are, such as: even if the prince loved a seer who is a common girl- he can't really make her a queen, as no one will approve. some will beg to difer that it could happen if it's dealt with in a certain way.

one of the parts I loved in the book is that the king's view on the matters stayed truthful to how he should act, no covering was made to make it look smooth. it's like the author is telling us that this is the story, you can enjoy it or make whatever of it, your choice.

ofc I am dying to get my hands ASAP in book 2!!

Highly recommended!!
one of the best books I have read this year.

This book felt like every other YA fantasy that I’ve read. It’s very predictable, there wasn’t much fleshing out of the world or plot. It was all about the romance and frankly the romance wasn’t that great. The male love interest was even more bland and boring than Mal if possible. It also shouldn’t have been compared to the cruel prince because that series was fun, engaging and one of the only true enemies to lovers I’ve read. This was a hollow shell of that book.

Kromě hlavní hrdinky Violet nemají ostatní postavy žádnou hloubku, autorka v příběhu zmiňuje věci, které nijak nerozvine a o konci vůbec nevím, co si myslet.

Ok I’ll admit it – I enjoyed this WAY more than I was anticipating. Intriguing and deliciously captivating.
Violet I liked her immediately, this is definitely a character driven over world driven fantasy novel, which in the end I think worked here.
I really enjoyed romantic subplot but it wasn't overwhelming and it didn't detract from our MC, the story or the forward progression at all. Chen did an excellent job of incorporating this storyline in a believable way that didn't lessen any of the characters.
I think anyone could enjoy this story but it is definitely all fantasy. So I'll leave you with me screaming for second installment.

I absolutely loved this book! It was pretty fast-paced & so different from anything I've been reading lately. This felt like a beautiful collage of different fairytales — Beauty and the Beast & Cinderella were the heavy hitters here.

There's magic, lies, betrayals, and fated love.

I LOVED how snarky Violet's attitude was! I loved Violet and Cyrus's banter and their "dance" between Enemies-to-Lovers. The side characters were HILARIOUS!

Definitely recommend for romantasy fairytale lovers!
