I feel like this book was too overhyped for me and made it more disappointing to read because of it. It took me a while to complete as it was pleasant enough to read when actually reading but did not have a strong pull to pick back up when not. There's this vague feeling of detachment/apathy I got from this book and others (like Normal People) that I'm just not a fan of.

Não é uma leitura ruim, mas em alguns momentos é repetitiva e a forma com que a história foi concluída foi um pouco simplista demais.

Having heard mixed reviews about this book, I was a bit apprehensive to begin with and found myself endlessly nit-picking at flaws: the plot was a bit predictable, and odd moments here and there were a little contrived, and I found it difficult to give a toss about certain characters.
Despite all this though, and despite a sluggish start, I really enjoyed the way that different themes were woven together with the plot, including philosophy, the extended chess metaphor and the symbiosis of quantum mechanics and psychology. I was with Nora every step of the way and I closed the book (albeit 3 weeks after opening it) a very happy boy indeed.

I've spent a lot of time fantasizing about how different my life would have been, had I done things differently and made different decisions, I have longed for that possibility for so long, to be able to go back and change certain things. Some nights while thinking about my life I have considered that as a real possibility worth pursuing, because if I were able to change certain bad decisions in the past, that would change everything for the better and make my life worth living. This book came like a pill to my mental illness of living in past decisions. I felt a lot more hopeful after finishing this book.
As all great spiritual thinkers and monks say: living in the present is the greatest challenge and also the only solution.
