Top quality mystery! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put this book down. I have enjoyed Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks mysteries for many years. This book is a stand-alone. Chris Lowndes is a movie music writer who leaves Hollywood for a remove house in northern England, grieving for his wife, who has died of cancer. He finds that the house he lives in, he discovers, was empty since 1953 when the owner was murdered (poisoned) by his wife, Grace Fox. She was hanged.
Chris becomes obsessed with finding out the truth.
Through the book, Chris finds out more and more about Grace fox; her journal during the war is interwoven with Chris's search. The ending was satisfying, interesting, and it makes sense with all the clues given.
I would highly recommend Before the Poison for anyone who wants a great read.
