This was a very entertaining story of what really Lassie was build on. The movies are very different. I could not put this story down.

A really excellent book. "Dogs are owned by men, and men are bludgeoned by fate." Don't let your memories of television Lassie steer you away from this one. It's a good read!

As classic as classic can be. This story ingeniously narrates a dog's perspective without making the dog's inner thoughts "talk".
In other words, it is the most naturalistic approach to a narrative about a dog trying to get home.
The minimal dialogue and regular description of Lassie's surroundings may be dry for some. But I personally loved it. I also liked how the author would occasionally shift perspectives to the humans Lassie encountered.
If you have patience for old descriptive writing, this is worth your time. Though loving dogs will certainly enhance your enjoyment, too.

Read aloud to 9 & 10 year old. They loved it and said there was no way it could get less than 5 stars.
