A memoir about the author's life and the research she conducted with Alex, the African Grey Parrot. Readers who've seen the numerous TV specials about this duo will find much of what is written in this book familiar, though Alex's story is pretty great and makes for easy listening.

Recommended for animal lovers and fans of nonfiction audiobooks.

I read this book on the recommendation of my teenage, bird-loving daughter.
It's an inspiring bit of non-fiction about bird intelligence, women in science, and the bonds that form between two creatures who are in close contact.

It's not my usual cup of literary tea.

I liked it fine. I'm glad I read it. The science parts were fascinating. But the whole book felt a little flat to me. It's why I don't usually go for this kind of thing.

HOWEVER, the sentiments and science presented here are AWESOME. Highly recommended despite it not earning the highest rating arbitrary rating from me.

Lesson of this book: assume non-human animals are much smarter than we self-centered dumb-dumbs think they are. Also: give Alex his banerry, already!

Quick read - very informative but also very fun. Lots of anecdotes and tales of Alex and the other birds, but never preachy.
