Of the three books in this series I think this is perhaps the weakest plot-wise, but the most developed in terms of emotional load. It's a shame the 4th book in this series never came to be, because I think if you had been able to read the final instalment as well that would have really elevated the events of this novel, as they are I think this one feels like a 'jump the shark' moment. There is a such a move away from the urban paranormal, into the mythological. It is by no means a bad book, Johnson really out does herself, presenting grief, and the strong emotional responses of those experiencing it, in a really deft and varied way. She is able to illustrate the loss of inhibition the characters experience in some settings, and she even goes so far as to temper the romantic relationships back in the real world to reflect that return to normality. I think this is a hugely successful book in so many ways, I just struggled with some elements of the big-bad story-line.

Wow, lots more action, and better explanations of things. I felt this one was just as good as the 1st one where I felt like the 2nd book was more of a bridge. Like it really didn't need to happen. If the story ended here I would be happy with it. But supposedly there is going to be a fourth book. I don't feel the need to go on. Kinda like after I read the first 3 books in the shadow hunter series.. It was cool where it ended.

I was so devastated about stephens death but everything is alright now. I didn't really like hiw it ended but i hope Rory and Stephen will become a thing in the fourth book.

Thankfully, certain events happened in this book that made the cliffhanger ending of the second book better. I really love Maureen Johnson's writing style, so this book was a great read. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes historical fiction with a modern twist.
