Unfortunately it was not for me. The similarities with a court of mist and fury were too much. I don’t normally give 2 stars. But I couldn’t raise it to 3.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved Remy’s slow mistrust toward Hale turn into trust and loved when they started showing feelings for each other! This book kind of felt Game of Thrones vibey but with witches and I love that! Also, I love the author’s dedication of this book to her parents!

Interesting plot, quick read. I do feel like it went from zero to 100 to quick. It’s been months and haven’t picked up book 2. Debating if I will.
This was early in my reading journey so when I rented it I wasn’t aware it was YA. I read it anyway because I wasn’t going BACK to the library. After this string of 6 books I picked up I’m definitely hitting reviews and paying attention to genre before renting. Rookie mistake. I probably would’ve loved this book in my teens.

I read this book for my book club and had a good time! I had some difficulty getting into the book but it did start to pick up. Once the scene was set, the story was progressively more interesting. The tension did make it so much better. I am not sure I’ll continue the series but it does give me TOG vibes.

Found this in a search to read court politics fantasy romance books that weren’t written by an author who did a bunch of controversial shit. I think it fills that role well
While I did find the pacing on this book slightly off in a bunch of places, there were a lot of things I liked that made me enjoy reading it - particularly the last like 75% when we give up on pretending the readers have not already figured out most of the major plot twists and also the weird insistence on not forwarding the romance when there’s this like insta attraction to one another. I really enjoyed the featuring of a non binary royal and gay characters (written in a casual, not like omg look they are gay way that would make it cringy). I certainly think there could have been more intricate and nuanced ways to get to some of the major plot things, and also think bringing a character back from the imagined dead only to be murdered like one scene later is a huge missed opportunity and those missed opportunities pop up but so be it. And like yeah, a lot of this was very similar to other fantasy books….that is not surprising and doesn’t make it bad. I enjoyed reading it.
