This took me a long time to work through, but that's because it's more of a workbook to do over time. I was directed to this book as I went through a life transition after being laid off from a company I'd been with for 19 years. It was helpful to think about my passions and what makes me happy while hearing stories about others and learn techniques to prototype and think through my options.

Only time will tell if this book ends up being transformative, but it does offer some healthy and actionable reframes for career exploration. I do feel like I've learned a lot about myself and what does / does not feel right for my future.

I wish this book more clearly advertised itself as a career-oriented book. Still valuable but I went in expecting a broader focus.

Read this one for work as a few of my colleagues are teaching a course using the book. Very glad I did as it has given me even more tools and insight not just for designing my life and advancing my career, but to help the students I meet with get on the path to do the same. Highly recommend!

Thought this had some very interesting prompts and exercises. I also liked how they reframed common “dysfunctional beliefs” about how we live and the decisions we’ve made or could make. Great food for thought if you’re like me and evaluating how you spend your precious time on work, health, family, etc.

Read this for my learning for alumni class! I should seriously revisit this as I think to my future plans. A big takeaway is the art of prototyping. You can't learn anything about yourself by sitting around you gotta get ur toes wet and true things to see what you truly enjoy doing and what gets you in the state of flow.

I think I found this interesting and useful because I had stumbled upon some of these mindsets independently. Not too wordy, and some very good tips! Especially when it comes to finding what is best for YOU, specifically.

If you aren't middle/upper-middle class, and live in or near a city, it might be hard to apply their strategies since networking (though not always in the traditional sense) is key.

So informative and insightful. Last few chapters about advice on the job market felt outdated, but looking past that, so many great things to take away from this book.
