It would’ve hurt less if I stabbed myself repeatedly.

I have to start by saying that I've read basically every single book in the Shadowhunter universe and THIS FREAKING BOOK DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The characters were all so well described and I loved them all. The plot gets more and more intricate and interesting as you go on. I liked this book better that the first one (whish I found somewhat boring). The ships..oh god the ships are immaculate.
James and Cordelia made me go on a rollercoaster throughout the book
and it was amazing to see again the characters from the infernal devices.

I wanted to give this book 3 stars because it gave me the anxiety to finish more than 2/3 of it in one day. I was so over the bracelet magic. I was so over the miscommunication. Fucking trash.
But i must admit this book had the most complex of ccs books yet. The characters were all fleshed out even the side characters. The book handled a lot of mature topics from coming out to accepting who you are. It also presented healthier relationships and characters who actually wanted to communicate even if James and Cordelia didn’t.
Cordelia and James are my favourite MCs yet. To compare to other books:
Cordelia was more down to earth than Emma, smarter than Clary, and more realistic/fleshed out than Tessa
James was kinder than Jace and showed more interest in the PERSON of Cordelia than Jace. He is also kinder than Will who is funny and passionate but James has a kindness and calmness to him that made him so attractive. He was not as kind as Jem but he was more vulnerable and flawed than Jem. He seemed more real. He was a lot less negative and obsessive than Julian. Julian i couldn’t get into because i really hate the friends to lovers trope.
The side characters were very interesting and flawed as well. I’ve grown to love Alastair, and felt more towards Christopher who seems to be a favourite. Ariadne and Anna have an interesting dynamic but i love them seperately. Matthew to me was not sexy or hot. He was cute and pathetic. Like an injured puppy. He’s the Jacob of Twilight. Not end-canon. We all know that. Thomas was adorable. I didn’t expect to love him so much.
Grace blackthorn is the umbridge of this series but pathetic. I HAVE NEVER HAD MORE FEELINGS OF ANGER I HAD TO CREATE A NEW TAB COLOR FOR THE SCENES SHE PISSED ME OFF IN.
I heard the series finale wasn’t as good as this one. I can only hope i guess

This was a remarkably mediocre book, I feel like very little happened and what did was not well laid out. I’ve loved Cassandra Clare for a very long time and her characters are still incredible but she really needs an editor!

This book helps make sense of the background for the story line in the Dark Artifices trilogy and I appreciated the backstory because you can feel the pain as the truth is revealed and you can see how we get to that point in the Dark Artifices. Can't wait to read the last book in this trilogy.
