Fiona McIntosh is one of my favourite authors. I saw her speak a number of years ago on a panel of historic fiction writers and have been reading her books ever since. She writes with rich detail, regardless of whether it's a fantasy setting or a period in the past. This story is no exception. It follows two young men in the years following the Great War, the majority of the story is set in India, a country I visited last year and have always loved. It's an interesting period of Indian history, the British had dominated for so long but their time was coming to an end, there are hints of this in Fields of Gold.

Really enjoyed this and gave 5 stars since 4 main characters all represent Fiona’s grandparents in India.

Beautiful story, evocative setting, fascinating characters. I listened to the audio version using BorrowBox (Bolinda) with my local library, and the narration was perfect.
