So much better than the first book. Much easier to understand. Cool mixture of western/SF/Horror/Fantasy genres. However, the character of Detta Walker is hard to take, even if she is supposed to be charicature and an evil character, her parts were nearly unreadable. The rest with Eddie and especially The Pusher are especially great. Finally, lobstrosities is a hilarious word.

I liked it better than the first one. There is more explanation but still very cryptic which keeps you hooked to the story. Very complex and very confusing.
This is no book you can read while doing other stuff on which you have to concentrate.
I was very glad for the little summary at the beginning as it has been a while when I listened to the first book. I also enjoy the kinda outro or authors note at the end where Stephen King is giving a heads up for the next books.

i'm finally starting to get why this series is so beloved. big improvement over the first book for me, and a lot of cool concepts in here. hoping the next one has a lil more flagg, i miss him dearly

bonus dbd section: jack mort is the only real option for a killer from this book specifically, which is a bit lame. flagg's the real best option, which goes for most things. eddie is the easy pick for survivor, but roland would be funny to see running from legion or something dumb like that. make the beach the map and you've got a banger(?) chapter

I read this book so long ago now that I can't even remember when it was (1990?). At the time I thought it was absolutely amazing even though it's not my typical genre. I plan to re-read this book (as well as The Gunslinger) so that I can finish out what there is so far of the series. I hope I enjoy it as much as I did those many years ago.
