The magic system is very interesting and unique if a bit confusing, though being the first in a trilogy we have time to dig into it more later, loved the visuals for some of the puzzles, though I wish there were more. Some scenes I struggled to imagine layouts of rooms.
I think this is a good book that is fun if you’re into found family and heist narratives.
It also includes some YA age appropriate discussions of the racism found in 1800s Europe which I think are done well.

A character has a pet tarantula, though as someone severely afraid of spiders it was never described in enough detail to trigger me.friendly_neighborhood_grandma's review

I will say that out of the six main characters, I just didn't really like Enrique all that much. He did grow on me (again) in the last third of the book, however he just wasn't a character that I vibes with. On the other hand, Zofia was probably my favourite character. I loved seeing how she interacted with the different situations and I'm hoping to see more of her POVs in the second book.
Overall I still really enjoyed this book and I'm excited to continue with the trilogy.
