It's been a lifetime since I first read this series. I remember so little of it, it was basically like reading it for the first time again.

I'm more curious as to how this story is going to stretch over almost 50 volumes...

I've been looking for a good manga to get into and this one was recommended to me. I don't think it's going to be this series. It was an okay read but I didn't feel that engrossed in the plot or connected to any of the characters. There's a lot of cliches that I can get into when done in a new way but I guess "girl gets makeover and becomes successful to get revenge on man who wronged her" is not one of them.

I feel like I'm decades late to the manga game, but my friend who is a fan of manga and anime visited and since I have been reading more graphic novel so wanted to give it a try. She recommended starting with Skip Beat! and I'm glad she did. It is a delight and I'm so glad that I picked up the first 4 volumes from my library. I'm also watching the anime which I feel is helping get more out of the manga while I get more comfortable with the medium.

Great manga! Fun, playful, with humor and a twisted edge! Kyoko is a fun protagonist as she sets down a path of revenge against a guy who took advantage of her. Sho (the aforementioned jerk) is such a loser! But I love Kyoko's determination and spirit. However the weird hand wisps out of the mouth and even (on a smaller scale) the little grudges are a bit annoying. They almost cost this a star. But I cannot help but love the story more. The characters are rich, original and well portrayed. I really liked the artwork for each character. Good potential for a series start! The president of the showbiz company she auditions with is a bit...out there. Be warned about him

I have been rereading this series since middle school (20s); it was one of the first manga my best friend introduced me to and I fell in love. I connected with poor Kyoko who devoted herself so completely to the person she loved, only to find out she was merely convenient for him. Her weird idiosyncrasies and not being afraid to be angry was inspiring and hilarious.
