Jessica is one of my favorite comic book characters for a reason. She's so normal, so flawed and vulnerable and yet has super powers. I loved seeing how this first comic compared to her introduction in the show and just how many other heroes showed up. Also, I love her growing friendship with Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

Viewers of the Netflix Marvel show, Jessica Jones, will recognize some of the content and especially the hard-boiled tone here in this collection of the first nine issues. The art team of Gaydos (pencils) and Hollingsworth (colors) perfectly suits writer Bendis's moody what if: what if a B-list superhero decided to step down and do something else--like open a private eye business. Welcome to the Marvel demimonde.

Great read

Jessica Jones was super relatable - more so than other heroes. This was probably one of the better marvel comics I've read in a while!

I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally get around to reading a graphic novel as an adult.

I loved the Netflix Alias TV show so when I saw the Alias collection I was intrigued and I certainly wasn't disappointed. It was a bit dark at times, but I really enjoyed all 9 installments in the collection.

This definitely won't be my last graphic novel.

Not a bad story, but the artwork was kind of odd. Much prefer the Netflix series to be honest.

Not a fan of the art but the premise is interesting and I'll definitely read more.

I love the whole concept about someone who decided to become an "ex" superhero, and discovering the reasons why and the psychology behind it. Jessica is an interesting, smart character and the stories are well-written and definitely keep your attention. Going into the private investigation gig is an intriguing choice of career. The art is great, too. It's awesome how much Jessica lights up when she feels more sure of herself and what she's doing. As an ex-superhero, I think she's someone who's easy to identify with, someone with a bunch of "what-if's," just like a lot of us reading. I also really liked the story with the girl who thought she could identify people with powers, and thought Jessica had an orange aura, and how excited she was when it turned out she was right. I checked this out of the library, and now have the whole Alias on hold--they had this one at my local branch, and then the whole shebang with #1-28 at the main branch. #3 in line!! Aargh! :-)

I'm finally reading Jessica Jones, and it's interesting to see that in the nine issues that make up this first volume, not one mention has been made yet of the Purple Man. He was such a central figure in the first season of the TV series, but he's absent so far in the comics, at least explicitly.

That aside, this first volume is really good. Bendis' writing is sharp and his dialogue punchy and natural, and Gaydos' noir-inspired artwork is the perfect complement.

Definitely not what I'd expected. No Trish, no dead parents, no Kilgrave. But still I must say that this is one of the best stories you'll read, infested with appearances of Captain America, tons of mentions of the Avengers and Fantastic Four and even a mention of The X-Men. All of which I had never expected. Definitely recommend you check this graphic novel out if you get the chance to. Cannot wait till I get my hands on Volume 2: Come Home.
