One of my absolute favorite reads of the year. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s story is fascinating and heartwarming, and Mirin Fader does an extraordinary job telling it. By far the most well-researched and carefully written biography I’ve read.
I’m not a basketball fan, so to say I was lost for most of this would be an understatement.
I love an inspiring story like Giannis’ but I got lost in the basketball talk.

Solid book about (arguably) the greatest athlete backstory of all time. It reads like a really long athlete profile article, the kind you'd read in a sports magazine. The writing wasn't amazing, but the story itself sure is. Giannis is a humble superstar (a phrase that sounds like an oxymoron given the typical attitudes of America's top athletes) who really came from nothing. This book not only made me look at my favorite basketball player in a new way, but it made me look at the food on my plate with newfound appreciation too. And while people may look at Giannis and say "if I was 6-11 I'd be in the NBA too", this book really underscores the buckets of blood, sweat, and tears that it takes to become the best basketball player on the planet.
Loved this book. I listened to it but will buy a copy for my physical library as well. I could read this multiple times and would love to reference certain passages again and again. My only hesitation is that I’m not sure if this was an authorized biography and I’d hate to love something Giannis didn’t approve of being written about him. However, It seemed as though many of the people interviewed for the book wouldn’t agree to participate if it weren’t okay with him, and the author seems respectful and genuine, so I justified it this way. Giannis already seems like a wonderful person with an amazing life store before reading this book - after reading, if it’s possible, you might love him even more.
Three starts for the writing, but five starts for the storyline. What a hardworking, humble, endearing guy. His story made a Bucks fan out of me.
Wonderful story about an amazing athlete who seems to embody the traits we most wish for from our idols.
This book makes me wish I cared about the NBA as much as I did 20+ years ago.

As someone born and raised in Milwaukee and who loves what Giannis has brought to the city, this was such a great read! Highly recommend it even if you are not a basketball fan!
Well-written and detailed biography of one of the best players in NBA history. Bucks in Six.
