Immediately upon starting this book, something felt different. The writing didn't grab me, what little plot I could find meandered. It almost didn't feel like King. Despite that, I pushed through, and I'm so glad I did.

The chaotic writing style became easier to read. The characters started developing. And while I can't say there was one single plot here, threads of them did start forming.

In the end, I can't really say for sure what this book was or what it was trying to be. It read almost like a fever dream. But I loved it. I was engrossed by the end.

Lisey most certainly had a story, we just had to do some digging to find it.

I enjoyed this story although not as much as others. I can see why it would be King's favourite but for me it lacked something compared to my personal favourites. Thoroughly enjoyable tale though with his usual expertise in character development and background stories. He never fails to make you feel like you are living in the story and know these characters intimately.

Without question, the most different Stephen King book I've read so far. It's often said that this book is his attempt at writing a romance story, and it's clearly what you see here. I can't say for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if certain moments were from his wife, Tabitha King. The story itself was an enjoyable one as you see Lisey struggling with the death of her husband, Scott and all the mystery that surrounds his death. Quite a bit of it is told in flashbacks to give that character insight, which makes this book heavily character driven. Fans of King's usual style may not like this one as much, due to the fact it's not especially chilling, had odd dialogue choices, and can be a little slow at times. However, if you want to read something unique to his works, this is the one for you.

One of Stephen King's best books and one of the best narrated audiobooks I have ever listened to. Right up there with the Gunslinger series. Many of his books are very poorly and lazily written, so it's inspiring to still be reading good ones. (Highly recommend the Apple series too.)
