I really really enjoyed this book! It was jam packed with a great storyline, amazing writing, great kinky smut, and an interesting world!

This book has a little bit of everything for everybody. Some m/m, m/m/f, m/f, even a tiny bit of f/f action. BDSM, dub-con, public sex, I don't think anything was left out of this one.

I really need to read this again before I can state my opinion on it. This one has Total power exchange without safe words. There’s a scene with “it’s not rape if her body reacts she wants it even if her words say no” books…which is not how things work in the real world…but I had enough suspension of disbelief to move past that scene.

The content warnings on this book is too mild for the actual content.
This review has spoiler. See the end of the review for the kink list and please read the content warnings

The thing about this book is that it's not BDSM because that requires negotiating. This book did not do that and makes it a point not to. So you can't even pretend that, that negotiations happened

Let's start with the good things:
  • It's really readable. I read it so fast
  • The sex scenes are really exciting and if you are into the content, fun.
  • The book is going deep into some niche kinks, that is can be hard do find books about
  • For an erotica, there is actually quite a bit of plot, which is fun as long as you do not think to hard. The plot makes as much sense as an 80s Kongfu action movie.
  • It feels very much like an omega verse book, from before that was a concept

My issues with the book
  • There are no negotiations of anything. This book is a study in how consent do not work. The d/s dynamic is not negotiated at all!
  • Our fmc is not risk aware at any time. Her two love interests are constantly holding vital information from her
  • Many sex scenes are non consent, without even a ig leaf of negotiation. It's very much in the "but he can smell that she wanted it". At one point the fmc actually says "I'm getting raped her" and one of the MMCs makes it easier for the two extras to have sex with her
  • Actually sexual slavery and a fetishization of such
  • The two male leads needs a female to complete their relationship 🤮
  • There is a lot of internalized ableism towards people with scars or mental health problems.
Apparently it's better to live in sexual slavery that get actual help with your mental health. And it will also remove the scars. There is no thought about asking the woman what she wants
  • This book completely removes all female agency from the FMC.
    They completely erased her identity
  • Fetishization of lesbian sex for male entertainment

And I have now talked myself into lowering my score.

Kinks
D/S, spanking, whipping to the point of bleeding, sexual slavery, golden shower, anal sex, double penetration, desk sex, forced orgasms, public sex, mmf, mfm, fff, non consent, rape fantasy, and more

While this is a darker erotica including d/s I really liked it. The sci fi aspect was excellent and the world building and character building realky drew me into the story! Now I have to read the rest!

Yes, I read this. What can I say, husband was away for the weekend. This was pretty good for what it was, the writing was decent and it actually had some semblance of a plot. I'd say this was kind of like a porny version of Honor Harrington or Walter Jon Williams Dread Empire's Fall series. Usually when I read a book like this I skip to the juicy parts but I actually wanted to know what happened to the characters in this one.

All the reviews were so positive and highly rated and the story had such a promising start unfortunatly I was throughly dissapointed. Like did we even read the same book?
I expected it to get better- it did not. The MFC was written with cool BAMF traits but constantly rendred a powerless and made a victim through the enitre story.  Actions explained away as 'domination' are just an excuse for rampant explict SA, coersion, manipulation and gaslighting.
Neither of the MMC are likable.

The cool space strategy element in the begining disappears entirely and the characters make increasing breath-takingly baffling desicions.
