riley sager is the king of blending mystery thriller with horror, but just in the tiniest bit to make readers feel the paranormal or spooky elements without fully embracing the horror genre - and I fear this is the closest he’s come!!
this one was a bit much for me, but I flew through it regardless! the suspense of reality is something I regularly think about in thrillers, and while in theory, a cult initiative apartment building in NYC sounds intriguing, it fell flat to something way more boring and farfetched for me…
also, it made me giggle how literally every person in the main character’s life was like “this is a terrible idea” and her only response was “but I’m poor” … meanwhile all of her friends are offering her places to stay and money 🙄 the idiot factor was strong with her
HOWEVER! I do love the spooky elements and it truly put me in the season for autumn and halloween! the fast paced plot line was great as always because you know your girl loves a good binge 🤪
definitely not my favorite by riley, but still a great semi-horror book!

denne boka var utrolig bra, og fanget meg fra første stund. jeg så ikke slutten komme - men det jeg likte best var at spenningen alltid var der, fra start til slutt. også er jeg en sucker for sekter og slikt, så denne falt rett i smak. hovedkarakteren tok mange dumme valg som til tider var litt irriterende, spesielt mot slutten - men historien var så bra så det plaget meg ikke så mye.
