Perfect

With a just right balance of humor and heart, Lawson once again shines a light on the real darkness of mental illness and chronic disease, and then makes you laugh so hard you can’t even read the funny passage to your husband. Lawson has been a precious companion during my mental health journey and I will walkways buy what she writes (or draws).

This book was harder to read than her first two books.

Some chapters were quick while others rambled on.

There were less funny stories overall though I did laugh out loud a handful of times.

I’m looking forward to her next work - she never disappoints.

I love Jenny Lawson, so I might be a little biased but…

I LOVED this book so much. She encapsulates what it is to live with anxiety/depression in such a humorous and endearing way. No other Author makes me laugh out loud while reading like Jenny Lawson.

Thank you so much for making me feel normal and that this anxiety thing is manageable.

Some parts laugh-out-loud funny, but a lot of tedious parts.

Eh, not for me. I listened to the audio book. Lots of pseudo-psychobabble presented in that whispery-dramatic tone that’s supposed to be inspirational, think Glennon Doyle. I did not laugh out loud once, except when other people had written the words (the section of social gaffes from other people on Twitter was very funny). Also I really dislike when mental illness is treated in such a binary way- either you’re « fine » or you’re « broken ». Ick. That’s exactly the mentality that keeps people trapped in their cycles … « it’s just the way I am, I’m broken! ».

This is my favorite book I’ve read all year and the year is almost over so that’s actually saying something. I happen to pick this up when I was going through the darkest depression of my life and I can truly say Jenny Lawson brightened a lot of dark days for me. I have no words to express my love and gratitude for this book.

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway! So yay and thank you to Henry Holt & Co publishing.

Jenny Lawson (aka The Bloggess) first gained recognition as a blogger. She'd blog about her affinity for taxidermy and her anxiety issues, all with a very healthy dose of honest humor. She eventually published her first book, the hilarious [b:Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir|12868761|Let's Pretend This Never Happened A Mostly True Memoir|Jenny Lawson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489415716l/12868761._SY75_.jpg|17995392], which my book club really enjoyed. Then a few years later she published [b:Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things|23848559|Furiously Happy A Funny Book About Horrible Things|Jenny Lawson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523830369l/23848559._SY75_.jpg|43075476]. (I only recently listened to the audio for this... LOTS of laughs from me). And now, due out in early April is Broken (In the Best Possible Way), where Lawson continues to entertain with her brand of quirky humor. Plenty of penis and vagina talk here folks, so not for the easily offended. How could I not enjoy a book where the author shares about the time she asked her doctor about vagina lasers (including pew pew sound effects)?!?
