This is such a delight and would make a perfect gift for beginning and advanced needleworkers. Johnson infuses a wide variety of design motifs with spiritual symbolism, and offers basic but useful tips on how to incorporate meditation, intentionality, and reverence into the act of embroidery. The spiritual aspect of the book is generic by design, offering practices drawn from various traditions -- but the real value of the book is Johnson's simple but attractive collection of motifs that can be combined into personal designs. The presentation of each motif with a brief description of its traditional symbolism is the strongest suit of this inspiring book, but Johnson also offers basic tips on color and design for beginners. I also want to acknowledge the value of adding a book on craft by a BIPOC designer to my library!

This book went into great detail about the stitches and designs. I enjoyed the variety of patterns that were included. The size variations are great too, as it is sometimes difficult to scale a pattern up. Some of the designs are big enough to go around the collar of a shirt!

hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted relaxing slow-paced

This is the kind of book you need to buy. You need time with it. You have to pore over it and really get into it. I read it from the library so the slow pace made me anxious sometime, but I realized that’s just what this book is and what it needs. Definitely going to grab an e book copy, wish bookshop.org would drop e books already!

Thank you NetGalley for an Arc of Mystical Stitches! This will make a wonderful addition to our library collection and sewing group. We have embroidery books in the library but mainly straight forward "how to's" and others that seem too young or old for Middle/High School students. These types of books do not hold this group of students attention.

Mystical Stitches has enough diverse projects that the students would get inspiration to create something of their own. The book includes clear instructions for embroidering objects, clothing and bags.
