the only reason I'm giving it this rating is because the last short story practically had me in tears. saved the whole book, I was not particularly inspired by any of the short stories in there. Church wasn't even that strong a theme, I thought the book would do a better job at exploring the conflict between the Church and personal desires. All the characters seemed relatively disconnected from the church already...

read a physical version and listened to the audiobook, def recommend the audiobook. so good. as a white woman who isn't religious, this book was a window into a world that i have never experienced. i thought it was wonderfully written and even though the stories were short they definitely packed a punch.
